How to read your optical prescription?Updated a month ago
Your prescription contains all the key details needed to make your lenses. Here’s what each term means:
🏥 Main terms:
OD (Right Eye) / OS (Left Eye): Indicates which eye the correction is for.
SPH (Sphere): Corrects nearsightedness (-) or farsightedness (+).
CYL (Cylinder): Corrects astigmatism (if present).
AXIS: Angle of astigmatism (from 0° to 180°).
ADD: Additional correction for presbyopia (for multifocal/bifocal lenses).
📏 Additional measurements:
PD (Pupillary Distance): Distance between your pupils, in mm.
Fitting Height: Sometimes noted for progressive lenses.
💡 Example:
OD: -2.25 SPH → nearsightedness of 2.25 diopters in your right eye.
OS: +1.50 -0.75 x 90° → farsightedness with astigmatism in your left eye.
